01

First rule out a closed test window

The August Closed Beta ended on August 23. On August 24, the Playtest client is no longer a reliable way to validate a fix. A client that stops at login, cannot find a server, or exits after the test has ended may be reacting to an unavailable build or service rather than a local hardware fault.

Before changing anything, check the official WARDOGS announcement feed. If no test or Early Access build is live, stop. Troubleshooting a retired beta build can create new problems without producing a playable result.

02

Use the low-risk sequence

  • Restart Windows and Steam once, then launch from the Steam Library rather than an old desktop shortcut.
  • Use Steam Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
  • Install current Windows updates and official graphics-driver updates, then restart.
  • Close non-essential overlays, monitoring tools, injectors, and recording utilities for one clean test.
  • Compare your PC with the published minimum requirements, including 16 GB RAM and 50 GB free storage.
  • If Easy Anti-Cheat shows an error code, switch to the dedicated EAC checklist instead of guessing.

03

What the developer has actually said

The pinned Closed Beta post says crashes were being tracked as part of the testing process. It does not publish one universal community fix. That matters because launch crashes can come from different causes: corrupted game files, a driver conflict, an anti-cheat service failure, unsupported hardware, or a build-specific defect.

A forum reply suggested removing a particular Windows update. That is not a developer instruction and is not reproduced here. Removing security or operating-system updates based on one anonymous report is a higher-risk action than verifying files or updating supported drivers.

OPS NOTE

Do not disable antivirus, Secure Boot, TPM, kernel protections, or Windows Update just to force one launch. Record the exact error and use official support channels.

04

Capture evidence before the next attempt

  • Take a screenshot of the full error, including any Easy Anti-Cheat number.
  • Note whether the failure occurs before the splash screen, at the menu, while joining a server, or inside the Control Zone.
  • Record Windows version, CPU, GPU, RAM, driver version, and whether the game is installed on an encrypted or external drive.
  • Keep the crash timestamp so support can match it with logs or telemetry.
  • Change one variable per test; otherwise a successful launch will not tell you which step helped.

05

When to stop local troubleshooting

Stop after the clean, reversible checks if the same crash remains. Repeated reinstalls, registry cleaners, random DLL downloads, and operating-system rollbacks are not evidence-based fixes. Wait for the live build, consult the pinned known-issues post, and send the captured details through the game or anti-cheat support route named by the developer.
